About the Author

Wayne Chase is a musicologist and author of a range of music reference works on Western tonal music.

Educated at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Chase began his career in the music industry in 1980 as a recording engineer, occasional session player, record producer, and technical instructor. Since the 1990s, he has been investigating and writing on measurable indicators of popular song quality.

Chase also researches the identification, measurement, and analysis of emotional meaning in language, especially as it applies to song lyrics. He holds five patents in the field of connotative intelligence.
